The goal of the project is to strengthen the role of community-based organizations (CBOs) in Jalal-Abad province of Kyrgyzstan and ensure their institutional development. The project objectives include providing administrative and organizational support for CBOs and local communities, increasing the public awareness on civil society activities and providing consultations and training workshops to CBO representatives. Within the framework of the first phase of the project, Public Association Counterpart-Sheriktesh organized 24 training workshops for 1,018 people, representing 303 civil society organizations and 268 local self- governments. During implementation of the project 13 non-profit organizations were officially registered in the Ministry of Justice province department, 31 community based organizations and initiative groups were established. Training participants developed 30 projects on improvement of social infrastructure. The second phase starting from July 2003 envisions the same activities but much more expanded in terms of training intensity and content.
