Press-conference “Fostering of Human Rights Culture in KR”

On July 16, 2008 “Women – Leaders of Jalalabar” Association organized a press-conference “Fostering of Culture and Human Rights in KR” in training-hall of Centre of Education of Adults.

The press-conference was conducted within the framework of advocacy-campaign on the project “Establishment of the Educational and Legal Centres in Chui and Jalalabat Oblasts of the Kyrgyz Republic”, supported by European Comission and implemented by three partner organizations: Counterpart-Sheriktesh, “Women – Leaders of Jalalabar” Association and “Elsen”.

Aims of the press-conference:

  1. Improvement of awareness of Jalalabat province population on human trafficking problem.
  2. Presentation the advocacy-campaign on human rights to the population.
  3. Development of schedule of information meetings in 5 districts of Jalalabat province.

Opening statement was said by Yusufjanova Tolgonai Isakjanovna – Senior Specialist of Social Department of State Province Administration. In the speech she pointed out, that the problem of human trafficking is burning and it is important to conduct a complex work to combat trafficking. She thanked the Association for active work in this field, for conducting of different actions involving all the competent organs.

Then Akmatalieva Gulnara – Head of Migration Department of Province Committee on Migration and Employment (CME). She spoke about migration statistics, trafficking victims, which were assisted and about CME activity. Service of National Security officer Kazakbaev Kyial also participated in the meeting; he presented information about human trafficking in KR and Jalalabat province.

There were no representatives of Interior Department, but there was a representative of National Security Service Kazakbaev Kyial, who provided information about human trade in Jalalabat province.

After their presentations a 12-minutes film was shown about human trafficking victims (2 girls were exposed to sexual slavery and 1 man and 1 girl exposed to labor slavery).

The following questions were asked during the discussion:

  • What kind of help can human trafficking victims get in the legal and educational center?
  • Who the center collaborates with?
  • How do you identify victims?
  • What preventive work is conducted by the centre?
  • What will happen after the end of the project?

To answer these questions representatives of the Association made a presentation about Jalalabat legal centre work. At the end of the presentation the Association staff told, that 2-week advocacy campaign on human rights started. Presented the campaign program in details and developed a schedule of information meetings jointly with representatives of 5 regions.
